Alan Reisberg, President and Chief Strategy Officer
As Owner of Capital Media, Alan serves as the lead strategist for all accounts. He began in advertising in 1979 selling ad space for the University of Texas campus magazine, moving into a full-time media career as media planner and buyer at The Bloom Agency in Dallas, working on such accounts as Seven Seas Salad Dressing, Chiffon Margarine and Braniff Airways.
He spent the next 10 years in New York City at agency NW Ayer in account management working on accounts that included Texize, Citibank, Continental Airlines, Gillette and AT&T, where he authored the creative strategy that began the “long distance wars” fought between AT&T, MCI and Sprint. Later recruited to Dell Computer as the Director of Marketing Communications, Alan directed all marketing communications, including advertising, direct marketing, sales support/collateral/fulfillment and market and consumer research.
Realizing he was an agency guy more than a client-side guy, Alan left to take the Executive Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer position at TBC, a full service agency in Baltimore. Ten years later, he left TBC to fulfill his long-term vision of owning his own agency, acquiring Capital Media, a leading media planning and buying agency in the DC market. He has successfully led and managed the agency since 2004.
Andrew Scherer is a senior executive with over 20 years of results-oriented experience achieving revenue and profit growth in large companies and entrepreneurial environments.
In addition to his CFO and partner leadership roles at Capital Media, he also serves as Managing Partner of Scherer Cybrarian LLC, a full-service market research firm that is a preferred research resource for Capital Media and its’ clients.
For the last 11 years at his market research firm, Andrew has completed numerous market research projects including market opportunity analysis studies, competitive analysis for major and mid-size corporations, strategic partnering opportunities, US Federal government contract vehicle analysis, business planning, product development and corporate valuation studies. Andrew manages a team of strategists and analysts providing research, monitoring, analysis, and strategy to their clients, including numerous respected global brands, across virtually all industry categories.
Other areas of past experience include technology assessment, project development, and business development with MidAmerican Energy, a unit of Berkshire Hathaway, which followed his work in corporate mergers and acquisitions with Peter Kiewit Sons’. Earlier in his career he worked in corporate finance with Signet Bank, and as an engineer with Schlumberger.
Andrew has an MBA in finance from the University of Chicago and a BS in electrical engineering from Duke University.
Marcia DuVall, Associate Media Director
Marcia has impressive credentials and some 25+ years of media negotiating and planning experience. Starting her career with the William B. Tanner Company in Memphis, Tennessee, she moved on to the Malone & Hyde Agency, a fast growing in-house agency, where she brought in regional accounts and was very instrumental in the agency’s growth.
In 1984, D’Arcy, Masius, Benton & Bowles brought Marcia to Atlanta as a senior buyer. Upon the closing of the Atlanta office, she joined Abramson Associates in Washington, D.C., as Associate Media Director of Broadcast. Prior to joining the leadership team of Capital Media, Marcia’s earlier client experience included Lipton, Auto Shack, Pontiac Dealers Association, Amoco Gasoline, Paramount Pictures Corporation, American Service Center, Dreyfuss Brothers, Anheuser Busch, First American Bank, Giant, M&M/Mars Candies, MCI, Ourisman and Proctor & Gamble.
Janene Ellis, Media Supervisor
Janene joined Capital Media with 22 years of regional and local media planning and buying experience. After beginning her career with VanSant Dugdale in Baltimore, she joined her client, USF&G Insurance, seven years later as a Sales Promotion Specialist.
Deciding to resume her media career, Janene moved to Gray Kirk VanSant as Media Supervisor and later as Associate Media Director at Davis Media Group. Following maternity leave, Janene developed media plans and buys for several D.C.-area and Baltimore agencies on a freelance basis. Before working for Capital Media, she provided multimedia planning and buying for such accounts as Bank of Baltimore, Citizens Bank, Crestar, Deerfield Senior Day Care, University of Phoenix Online Campus, USF&G Insurance, Hardees, Kaiser Permanente, Baltimore Orioles, Giant Food, Manor Care, Re/Max, Hershey Park and Trump Plaza Hotel & Casino.
Tessa Ohlendorf , Director of Strategy and Execution, Online Media
A native of Canada, Tessa began in digital media in 1999 in Toronto when she worked for Tucows Inc., selling online advertising space. A few years later she went from sales to media analysis in the aggressive world of pay-for-play gaming. This was a turning point in her career, as the challenge of running performance-based online media campaigns gained her full attention, prompting her to leave online sales forever to become a digital media planner and buyer, which is what she continues to do today.
In 2004 Tessa moved to New York where she worked on accounts such as Sirius Internet Radio, Four Seasons Hotels, Register.com and with pharmaceutical giants Takeda, Novartis, Sanofi-aventis, Shire and others. Tessa has also managed online media campaigns for clients Columbia Sportswear, Filippo Berio Olive Oil, Teach for America, First Response, Holistic Select, WWF, Bacardi and others. Tessa has worked with just about all areas within the digital space, including email & newsletter media, co-registration, CPA, CPL, CPC, CPM, ad serving platforms, buying and exchange platforms, social media campaigns, applications, analytics and reporting tools, SEO, paid search, affiliate traffic, mobile, rich media and video. Tessa has been on the Capital Media team since 2009.
Arlene Singer, Media Operations Manager
Arlene has been part of the Washington, DC advertising community since 1976 and employed by Capital Media since 1981. During the five years prior to starting at Capital Media she built her buying experience at two local agencies working on accounts such as Woodward & Lothrop, American Service Center and Georgetown Leather Design, as well as being the primary media buyer for the Southeast Toyota Dealers.
Her position at Capital Media has evolved over the years into overseeing media operations that range from daily management of client broadcast schedules to monitoring and stewardship responsibilities such as post buy analyses, managing schedule integration, ensuring copy rotations are delivered according to orders and detailed invoice reconciliation. Her extensive background in broadcast buying, market knowledge and 35 plus years of media experience give her the perfect skills for this job.
Amy Rosselle, Office/Operations Manager
Amy has worked at Capital Media for 17 years as our Office/Operations Manager. Prior to joining Capital Media, she gained media experience working as a sales assistant and later became Office Manager at WASH and WTOP radio stations in Washington, DC.
Her responsibilities now include coordination of monthly billing, managing creative materials for trafficking and preparing documentation for all client buys. She is accountable for the majority of our financials as well as all administrative duties. On a daily basis, Amy makes sure the office runs smoothly!
Jim Geoghegan, Adjunct Media Director
Jim started his career in 1982 at McCann-Erickson in New York where he rose quickly to VP, managing media planning for AT&T, American Express, Sony, Nabisco and others. He was then hired away by Backer & Spielvogel to run the Miller Lite business, where he spent three years and enjoyed critical of success on the account before moving on to international. Working for DDB Needham in New York, Jim was responsible for the media strategy and planning for American Airlines in 28 countries across Europe, Central and South America and Asia.
After a couple of years and hundreds of thousands of air miles, Jim jumped off the fast-track to see his children grow up. He spent the next eight years in Baltimore as media director and executive committee member of two mid-sized agencies before McCann lured him back home to New York to run the Johnson & Johnson, Motorola (global), Nestles and Glaxo accounts. Jim works with Capital Media clients on an as-needed, consultant basis.
